Join the Choir

Anyone that LOVES to sing is welcome to join the Malaspina Choir. New singers are invited to Join the Choir in by mid September or mid January each year.

Musical Plans - 2010-2011 Season

In our 2010-2011 Season, the Malaspina Choir under the direction of Wade Noble will present a series of three concerts starting with our 40th anniversary concert at the Port Theatre on November  14, 2010. The performance on December 12, 2010 will be a sing-along Messiah with soloists and the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra.  We will be part of the the biennial Nananimo Sings! festival in April 2011, including participation in a mini-concert and in the Gala Concert which features all participation choirs.  In addition we will be guest performers at the national Power Squadron convention in October, 2010 and guest artists when the Vancouver Island Symphony performs Sea Symphony  at the end of April, 2011.

Expectations of Malaspina Choir Members

We all have joined the Malaspina Choir because we love to sing and we want to enjoy ourselves doing so. We can all help to make this happen by taking responsibility for our own development as a musician, coming to rehearsals prepared and willing to learn, listening carefully and critically as you and others sing;  singing when your section is asked to sing and remaining silent when you are not singing.  Be attentive, be on time. Work together - the more together we are, the better we are.

  1. Learn your music and attend sectionals, rehearsals and performances throughout the 2010-2011 Season as per the timetable in the members’ section.
  2. Pay the tuition fee as indicated for the year plus purchase the uniform for your section.
  1. Participate in Choir Fundraising by selling tickets to Choir performances and events.

    Vocal Assessment
Each new member of the Choir will sing for the Music Director prior to joining the Choir. This is a positive opportunity for Wade to hear where you will best fit in the Choir. Wade will be checking your vocal range (for voice placement) and your ability to match a sequence of notes. It will take approximately 5 minutes. The vocal assessments are held after rehearsals in the first few weeks of the new season.
